While it is used for full size products, especially in the storage industry, but also for furniture in special situations. There are also many other products where a cardboard component may play anything from a major to minor role.

Here Cardboard Engineering is solely concerned with making models of existing products from card, or cardboard. An art with a long history it fell away with the reduction in cost of plastic for plastic models.

It has taken the introduction of affordable colour printing for everyone to revive the cardboard model. Ink Jet and Laser printers now permit anyone to easily print out their own models. Personal designs, or designs downloaded from the internet. There are now many sites from which models of a wide range of complexity may be downloaded without cost to the end user.

Individual designers are also able to offer their designs for download at reasonable charges. Of course with such downloads more than one copy may be printed, a bonus when an error occurs.
